What is the Pastoral Care Committee?

The purpose of the Pastoral Care Committee is to integrate and encourage participation
in a variety of caring programs in the lives of the Christ Church family.

Parish Nursing

Helen Zebarth is our Parish Nurse. She provides health screenings and teaches us about wellness and preventative health concepts. She is our liaison to community resources and services. She is available to counsel parishioners concerning personal health issues and to provide a personal touch by visitations to homes, nursing facilities, and the hospital. Her office is in the Smith Office Building and her office extension is 207. Call the church office to either speak with her or leave a message. She is a volunteer and does not keep regular office hours.

Knit Unto Others

The Christ Church prayer shawl ministry – Knit Unto Others – meets twice monthly to combine prayer, love and friendship while sewing shawls and blankets to be given to
those in need of comfort and God's healing of body and spirit.

Many blessings are knitted or crocheted into every shawl/blanket. The knitter or crocheter begins each shawl/blanket with prayers, and prayers may be continued throughout the creation of the item. While knitting or crocheting during our group session, prayers are offered at the beginning and at the end of the session. When the shawl/blanket is completed, it is given a final blessing during a service of Holy Eucharist. The group meets the first Monday of each month from 7:00-8:30 P.M. and the third Tuesday of each month from 2:00-4:00 P.M. in the parlors of the Old Rectory at 134 W. Boscawen Street. To request a shawl/blanket for yourself or a member of your family speak to the clergy, Helen Zebarth, Sara Bicking, Nancy Brown or Kay Keeley. To join the group as a knitter or “crocheter”, just call the church office and leave a message for Sara, Nancy or Kay who will return your call with details. An excellent website with lots of information is www.shawlministry.com.

Intercessory Prayer Group

A small dedicated group of parishioners pray independently (and at special services) for those members of the congregation who have requested prayers.

There are two ways you may request prayers:

1) You may ask to be on the Published List which is presented each Sunday Announcements. The names are read aloud at the Wednesday Noon Day service. The reason for your request is not made public and remains confidential. The reason however may be shared by you, family or friends if you wish. The entire congregation, as well as the members of the prayer group, is encouraged to pray for the names on this list.

2) You may prefer to request prayers in strict confidence. These names are placed on the Quiet List. A service of Evening Prayer is held by the members of the prayer group specifically for those who are listed on the Quiet List. Individual prayers are also offered daily by the members of the prayer group. To be placed on either list or to provide updates just notify the clergy, Helen Zebarth, Sharon Lower or Sara Bicking.

Card Ministry

Special cards designed for Christ Church by Rosemary Swope are sent to parish members
who are
ill or have suffered a death in the family. Joan Bronson sends these cards when
requested by
the clergy or Helen Zebarth.

Tract Rack

The Tract Rack is a portable display of information pamphlets and small booklets
concerning life in the Episcopal Church and aids for devotion or other topics.
It can be found in the back of the sanctuary or in the Tilford room. Please help yourself! Roger Gilmer maintains the contents of this rack. They are available at no cost. Please contact him if
you have a concern, question or suggestion about the available resources. Forward Movement, an agency of the Episcopal Church has a site where you may find further information http://forwardmovement.org/Today-s-Meditation/

Soup and Bread Ministry

Eleanor Monahan donates homemade soup which is delivered to members of our church who have been ill or have just been released from the hospital. The soup recipe is especially made for people with dietary restrictions. Fresh bread is added to the gift at the time of delivery.

The Shepherd’s Table

The Meals Ministry currently provides 1 to 2 dinners to members of our church family who are ill or have someone in their family that is ill (or in the hospital). The team of volunteers uses the computer program known as Take Them A Meal to gather information and schedule deliveries. With this program, everyone on the list of volunteers can see at a glance where the family lives, which foods are scheduled and who will deliver the meals. Go to the website www.takethemameal.com and see for yourself how easy it is to help someone in need. If you would like to share a home cooked meal with someone from our church please contact Sara Bicking.
