A new Occupational Therapy program at Shenandoah University, the Leisure Enhancement Activities Program (LEAP). LEAP is a very exciting online program for caregivers who live with someone diagnosed with memory impairment. The purpose of LEAP is to help caregivers find leisure activities that are geared to the specific interests and capabilities of their family member. We teach caregivers how to assess those interests and capabilities (even providing the materials to do so free of charge) and then help caregivers match the results will a large inventory of ideas. This is a free program and we are hoping to get pilot information that will support a grant in the future. LEAP is completely online (except for one brief telephone call) and will be available from Feb 1 through March 15 2009. Caregivers can complete the program at their own pace and although an internet connection is necessary, it does not need to be a high speed connection. We ask the caregivers to complete a questionnaire before and after the program (also online) but as an incentive they will receive a $10 gift coupon from Wal-Mart.
