Outreach and Mission

During COVID-19, our outreach has had to change. So many of the local outreach programs at Christ Church are hands-on, face-to-face, neighbor helping neighbor. We can't do that right now, but we are finding ways to help in our community.

As Webster has asked, while we stay at home, we can reach out to one another and share support. This is being the church! Call someone who you don't think has access to online resources. Send a note in the mail. Learn how to zoom with your small group.

It's also important that we do what we can in the larger Winchester community. Support our small businesses if you can. Support our medical, first responders, grocery workers, postal and delivery workers, everyone who is providing services while we stay home. Even if a thank you is all you can offer right now, it will matter.

While kids locally and nationally are out of school, ensuring they have meals is essential. The Outreach Committee continues to work with Bright Futures, our partner in the Panda Ministry, to collect and distribute food. Please visit their website for details on how you can help them directly.

Other local groups that we work with and that you can support directly include:

CCAP

Winchester Rescue Mission

Evans Home for Children

WATTS

To support local medical workers, consider sewing masks! Visit Valley Healthlink for information.

Episcopal Relief and Development continues working in the US and around the world.

If you see a local outreach option for us to promote, let us know!

Outreach ministries happen all year and there is a project for everyone! Here are some examples:

  • Bake a pie or roast a turkey for Winchester’s Community Thanksgiving in November. Christ Church parishioners are also invited to work at the dinner hosted by First Presbyterian Church.

  • Donate snacks and/or help pack food bags for local children during the summer, when they are not assured food at school. More than 100 people helped this past summer!

  • Christ Church has worked with CCAP to provide Easter baskets for local kids for the past several years. Helping assemble colorful baskets full of joy is a wonderful part of celebrating Easter.

  • The Outreach Committee financially supports additional local ministries including Froggy’s Closet, the Evans Home, and more.

The Outreach Committee meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Baden Center. If you have questions about any of the outreach projects or ideas for new ones, please contact us.
